Honest Penny

Terms of use

Plain terms for a small tool. By using Honest Penny you are agreeing to these, so they are written to be read rather than skimmed past.

What Honest Penny is

Honest Penny is a set of pricing calculators for people who make things by hand. You enter what your materials cost, how long a batch takes and what your selling channel charges, and it works out your cost per item along with retail and wholesale prices built from it.

The calculators are free to use and do not require an account. Pro is a one-time payment that adds unlimited saved products, the channel comparison, price sheet exports and your own saved selling channels.

The numbers are arithmetic, not advice

This is the part that matters most, so it is near the top rather than buried at the bottom.

Honest Penny does arithmetic on figures you supply. It does not know your market, your customers, your local costs or your tax position, and it is not accounting, financial, tax or legal advice. A suggested price is a calculation, not a recommendation that you will sell anything at that price.

Fee rates for marketplaces are typical published rates and they change often. Always check your own account rather than trusting ours. You are responsible for the prices you set and for checking the numbers before you rely on them.

Accounts

An account is optional. If you want one, you sign in with a link sent to your email address rather than a password. Keep access to that inbox, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you.

Free accounts can save one product. You can update it as often as you like.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think somebody else has got into it.

Paying for Pro

Pro costs ten US dollars, once. There is no subscription, no renewal and no card kept on file afterwards.

Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, who act as the merchant of record. That means Lemon Squeezy is the seller for the purposes of the transaction and handles sales tax and VAT. Their terms apply to the payment itself, and your card details are given to them rather than to us. We never see or store them.

Once Pro is on it stays on. We are not going to move an existing feature behind a higher tier later, and there is no trial timer that expires.

What we ask of you

Nothing surprising, and mostly common sense:

  • Do not try to break into other people's accounts or read their data.
  • Do not attack the site, scrape it at a volume that degrades it for other people, or try to get around the limits on the free plan.
  • Do not resell or redistribute Pro access, or share one account across a group as a way of avoiding paying.
  • Do not use the site for anything illegal.

What we can promise, and what we cannot

Honest Penny is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we cannot promise it will never be down, never contain a mistake, or always suit your particular situation.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses that follow from using the site, including money lost by selling at a price the calculator produced. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you have actually paid us, which for most people is nothing and at most is ten dollars.

Nothing here removes rights you have under consumer law where you live.

Ending things

You can stop using the site whenever you like, and you can ask us to delete your account and everything in it. The privacy page explains how.

We can suspend an account that is being used to attack the site or harm other people. If that happens to you and it looks like a mistake, get in touch and we will sort it out.

If we ever shut Honest Penny down, we will give notice and a way to export what you have saved before anything is deleted.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change in a way that actually affects you, the date at the top changes and the change is announced on the site. Carrying on using Honest Penny after that means the new terms apply.

Small corrections, like fixing a typo or clarifying a sentence, will not be announced.
